Sobre a Ovilongwa Consulting

Aprofundar o conhecimento — e ensiná-lo

Ovilongwa is a word used in several national languages of Angola — Umbundu, Nyaneka, Kwanhama and Nganguela — and means exactly this: to deepen knowledge and to teach that knowledge. It is the vocation that defines us.

A nossa história

Sete anos a perguntar — e a ouvir

Ovilongwa Consulting was founded in 2019, in Luanda, by sociologists David Boio and Carlos Pacatolo, both researchers at the Instituto Superior Politécnico Sol Nascente (ISPSN). It was born from a shared conviction: Angola needed a civil institution, independent of the State and political parties, capable of listening to Angolans about their lives — and doing so with methodological rigour comparable to the best institutions in the region.

The first years were dedicated to provincial and municipal surveys, commissioned by civil society organisations, local authorities and international partners. In 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, we conducted our first national poll on perceptions of the health response. In 2021, Ovilongwa was formally recognised as the national partner of the Afrobarometer in Angola — the largest pan-African public opinion survey network, present in 39 countries across the continent.

Since then, Ovilongwa has coordinated in Angola Round 9 (2022) and Round 10 (2024/2025) of the Afrobarometer, totalling more than 2,400 face-to-face national interviews. In parallel, it continues to develop its own surveys — provincial, municipal, sectoral — for public and private clients, always with open publication of reports.

In January 2026, we launched the editorial programme "What Angolans think" — two publications per week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, with short analyses and long studies on Angolan current affairs in light of the data.

Missão

Listening to Angolans. Understanding Angola.

To produce empirical, independent and open-access knowledge about Angolan society — placing it at the service of citizens, researchers, journalists and policymakers. We refuse the opacity that has characterised much of the information about Angola: everything we measure, we publish.

We believe that democracy is only possible when citizens have access to an accurate picture of what they think — and what their fellow citizens think. That is the bridge we try to build, week after week.

Valores

Quatro princípios que não negociamos

  • Independence. We are not affiliated with the Government, the opposition, or any funder.
  • Transparency. We always publish data, methodology and code.
  • Rigour. We follow international standards for probabilistic population surveys.
  • Open access. Everything we produce is freely available.
